CLIMATE
RESILIENCE

Based at MIT’s Urban Risk Lab, this three year initiative was centered around local community engagement paired with urban resilience research, with the ultimate goal of supporting existing neighborhood efforts and creating green jobs through a Civilian Climate Corps. The CIVILIAN CLIMATE CORPS (CCC) is a policy idea to enlist a generation of young people in jobs and service. The MIT Civilian Climate Corps Initiative (CCCI) focuses on successful implementation of the CCC concept at the city and community level. The initiative works with partners on questions related to impact on equity and climate, through coursework, student research, projects and partnership.

Carriker worked regularly with a central partner to the initiative, EASTIE FARM, a non-profit dedicated to pursuing climate justice, improving food access, and fostering community resilience through the development of interactive urban agricultural spaces and environmental education programs in which residents of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to learn and take part in the production of healthy, locally-grown, and culturally relevant foods. Eastie now has a Youth Climate Corps for high school students to learn about green jobs through having one.
